Community

Floyd's 99 has been actively involved in every community we've built a shop in since our earliest days. Not only do we care about making a difference, our staff are intimately connected with the local charities, schools, arts, businesses, and other institutions as people who've grown up in these neighborhoods. Continue to tune in for the ways we are helping build the communities we live and work in across the country.

Our family at Floyd's 99 has many personal connections to Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).  We're passionate about doing what we can to help cure, treat & prevent  this devastating disease one haircut at a time.  The JDRF is the largest charitable funder of T1D research and the cutting-edge research that JDRF funds has been life changing for more than 3 million children & adults living with T1D.  Read more below about why we feel so strongly about our support of JDRF.

But let's cut to it, what can you do to help?  Buy our Value Book in our shops in Denver, Colorado Springs, Los Angeles, Chicago and Maryland.  You'll enjoy $25+ in value for some of Floyd's 99's most enjoyable experiences.  Name your price for it, but we require a minimum donation of $3.  We think a little extra is worth it for the value of the experiences, but more so, for the important research your money helps to fund.  We're proud to be the Presenting Sponsor for this year's Walk to Cure Diabetes in Denver, CO.  The walk will be held on Sunday, September 9 at the Coors Field Main Parking lot.  You can also support our walk team in Denver by making a donation directly to JDRF through our walk page.

Floyd's 99 is proud to partner with JDRF to help raise awareness of the seriousness of T1D; the daily living challenges for
kids & adults with T1D, not to mention, families who support them and live T1D with them and the long-term serious health affects.
These kids and adults amaze us every day by the way they manage their disease, but wouldn't it be great if it became easier -
and better yet, the disease were cured and even better yet, prevented?

It's all possible!  The news is good and the feeling is hope, due in great part to research!  The efforts of researchers and the brave trial patients in the Artificial Pancreas Project have us closer today than ever before to an automated system using the technologies of the insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor communicating via a computer in between to deliver insulin based on real-time changes in blood glucose levels.

JDRF's research goals are to:
CURE | Remove the disease from our loved ones by restoring a person's insulin-producing
capability & halting or reversing the body's misguided immunie attach on the pancrease (ex. beta cell encapulation).
TREAT | To allow people with T1D to live better, healthier lives by developing new devices & therapies that optimize
blood sugar control and treat or prevent the serious complications of T1D (ex. artificial pancreas).
PREVENT | To keep T1D from occurring in those most susceptible by preventing or stopping the disease
process before it damages the pancreas (ex. nanovaccines).

Floyd's 99 Barbershop styled hair for the first ever Rock & Runway Fashion show on Saturday, April 14th. This event benefited five local Colorado charities including Denver Gives, Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum, Platteforum, International Hearing Dogs, and Bessie's Hope. A high fashion runway event featured 3 live bands, 4 local clothing designers, hosted by Jeremy Hubbard. Check out the official website here.

Floyd’s 99 has a long history of giving back to the communities in which we operate. A key focus is supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation efforts. We also support schools and local charities of every other stripe in our various shop localities.

On a national level, we are just starting work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Every one of our shops has its community and charity ties specific to its neighborhood. Our staff don't just work there - they typically live in those same neighborhoods, and care about them.

In Chicago, we made the late fall and early holidays a lot warmer for folks in need with our annual coat drive. Hundreds of coats were gathered and distributed to Chicagoans who really need them.  Many thanks to our customers and staff who helped make this happen.

Once again we partnered with Toys for Tots in many of our neighborhoods during the holiday season. Our customers and our staff both made a difference for thousands of needy kids across the country. Thanks to everyone who helped make Christmas a little more special this year!

Recently we partnered with MassKicker, a leading charity for brain tumor awareness efforts for those diagnosed with the condition and the resulting disabilities.  Their major effort, Hawktober was supported and hosted by Floyd's 99 in our Austin and San Diego markets with great success. Thanks to all the customers and staff who helped make a difference. Check out some of the television coverage in San Diego here.
