Joseph: A Clean Burst Fade with Edge 

Barbers Fern and Alex gave Joseph a modern burst fade and enhanced it with Paul Mitchell® color lighting using Dual Purpose Lightner and 20 volume developer. Placing a sectioned hair in foil to manage the lift necessary and toning Paul Mitchell the color UTA for to ensure a cool tone to enhance his final look. To finish, they styled with Paul Mitchell® Dry Paste a go-to for texture and separation and flexible hold.

Cooper: Healthy Scalp, Effortless Style

Every great style starts with a healthy foundation. Fern treated Cooper to a Tea Tree Special Detox Salt Scrub, removing and all build up, followed by Tea Tree Shampoo & Conditioner to refresh and invigorate the scalp. His mid-length-cut allows space for his curls to behave plus styled with a lightweight Tea Tree foam product for a natural finish.

Spencer: Bold Platinum with a Twist

Fern and Sammie teamed up on Spencer’s blow-cut mullet and pushed creativity with a zig-zag platinum card technique, sectioning hair in the zig-zag section into foil to obtain lift. Really personalizing the cut and color like a pro. To keep the style defined, they finished with Tea Tree Shaping Cream, great for separation, and makes fine hair multiply and stay groomed for your day.

Donovan: Color as a Canvas 

Donovan’s look was all about creative color and design, proving that Paul Mitchell® professional color makes it possible to express your personality through your style. Cutting his hair first for the perfect length and then applying Synchro Lift Lightner from Paul Mitchell and lifting to the palest blonde possible and to tone we used Paul Mithcell the color UTP to act as a finisher before the free hand color tattoos were applies with our semi-Permanent Vivid shades of Color Ways... using a bottle and the artistry of @FerntheBarber smiley faces that melt into a great fashion look and feel

Fern The Barber (Fernie Andong)
Fern is a licensed barber and cosmetologist, international educator, and platform artist for leading brands including Paul Mitchell, Hattori Hanzo Shears, and DeadEndz Salon. His work and expertise have been featured in Modern Salon, Behind the Chair, American Salon, Launchpad, Hairbrained, Huffington Post, and the Paul Mitchell Men’s Cutting System DVD.

A contributor to Milady’s 2017 barbering textbook and co-creator of the Paul Mitchell Schools’ barbering program, Fern is also a multi-time finalist in Behind the Chair’s #OneShot Awards. With a strong social media following, he shares haircutting education, fades, dry cutting, and efficiency techniques with barbers and stylists worldwide.

Stephanie Kocielski
Stephanie is Vice President of Education & Artistic Director at John Paul Mitchell Systems. Modern Salon+3files.paulmitchell.edu+3Beauty Launchpad+3 She has worked in the beauty industry since at least 1983, beginning behind the chair, later becoming a platform artist and educator, and now developing programs and education globally. Known for her passion for mentorship, high standards, and taking risks, Stephanie combines artistic vision with leadership to grow the next generation of stylists and elevates education in the industry.

Alex, Manager at the Hermosa Beach Floyd’s 

I specialize in Fades. Drop, Skin & Burst fades. Gentlemen's haircuts and tapers. I also work on beards, detailing and using a straight razor for classic shaves. I can do basic/ freestyle design work if you want to get crafty with your haircut! I look forward to giving a full Floyds 99 experience. 

Sammie Saunders – Technical Education Manager 

With over 15 years of experience both behind the chair and in the classroom, Sammie has built a career rooted in the craft of haircutting and a passion for helping others grow. From managing barbershops to leading technical education, Sammie’s mission has remained consistent: to guide and empower others to become even more successful than she is.  

As a Barber, Sammie prioritizes the client experience—ensuring each person not only leaves with a great haircut but also feels seen, accepted, and confident in their own skin. Her chair is a welcoming space where clients are encouraged to be themselves, feel empowered, and walk away with a fresh cut and a renewed sense of confidence.
